This issue is as good a jumping-on point as any, as Laura Kinney begins ResurrXion with a brand new costume and a new mission. The details of that mission are irrelevant. All that really matters is that the new status quo allows both Laura and her younger sister Gabby to serve as superhero partners. Their relationship continues to be the driving force of the series and the main reason All-New Wolverine is one of Marvel's most purely enjoyable superhero comics. The viral outbreak conflict doesn't come across as especially noteworthy in this first chapter, though the question of how Laura might be connected to that outbreak does give the plot some added weight. Mostly, though, it feels like a welcome excuse for writer Tom Taylor to dabble with a few other Marvel heroes in addition to the Laura/Gabby dynamic. Leonard Kirk's debut on the series also helps put the book back on track in terms of its visual presentation. While the heavy-handed inking doesn't always bring out the best in Kirk's style, the book has a clean, slick sense of style to complement Laura's new costume. -Jesse

If any X-Men book deserved to stick around for the ResurrXion relaunch, it's All-New Wolverine. The series'; familiar charm remains, with Tom Taylor offering readers plenty more of the Laura/Gabby team-up they love. Taylor also makes the most of the various Marvel U. guest stars in this issue, playing the personalities of the various super-genius scientists against one another as the viral outbreak threatens to grow out of control. The dynamic between Laura and Riri Williams also proves to be a lot of fun, with the added benefit that Taylor has the chance to briefly write Tony Stark again. Unfortunately, it seems that the series can't escape its ongoing visual problems even with this fresh start. Leonard Kirk seemed to be just what All-New Wolverine needed, but his work seems especially rushed and haphazard in this issue. The fact that there are three inkers working over his pencils certainly doesn't help matters. This series made such a strong impression early on thanks to David Lopez's art, and it's never been able to meet that standard since. -Jesse

In terms of plot, this new story arc is far from the most remarkable we've seen on All-New Wolverine. If anything, the alien viral outbreak angle feels like a contrivance to maneuver Laura and her allies into a place where they have to prove that Wolverines can heal and unify as well as destroy. But contrived or not, the sentiment is noble and rings true. There's something haunting about seeing Laura literally take on the pain and suffering of hundreds of people and slowly crumble under the burden. This issue showcases her at her most heroic, finding redemption for herself and the Wolverine name in a way her predecessor never could. Plus, there's the sheer fun of seeing Gabby and Deadpool interact. Those two clearly need their own team-up comic, post-haste. I only wish the art were a little stronger. Leonard Kirk handles the subtle emotion of the story well, but the thin, wispy line-work often gives this issue a loose, unfinished feel. Kirk needed a different inker to give his pages more depth and intensity. -Jesse
