This fall, the children of Logan will team up to solve the deadly mystery of the Orphans of X as part of Marvel Legacy.

The story kicks off in All-New Wolverine #25 from writer Tom Taylor and artist Juann Cabal. When Logan's son Daken goes missing it's up to Wolverine, Logan's clone-daughter Laura Kinney, to track him down.

"Daken and Laura have had a fractious past," Taylor tells ComicBook.com. "Though, that might be putting it mildly, given they've tried to kill each other. But as seen in our recent Immune storyline, Daken and Laura are now quite close. Laura is one of the few people that Daken has genuine affection for. They are brother and sister.

"They're both quite different," he continues. "Daken is a very smooth individual and supremely confident, but he's prone to anger and not afraid of killing. Laura is more reserved, calculating and precise. She's also more compassionate. At the heart of it, I'd say Laura has more empathy."

Following Daken's trail will lead Wolverine back to the Facility, where she was born and tortured into becoming a vicious weapon.

"The Facility is abandoned and serves as a reminder of everything Laura endured there," Taylor explains. "It's a painful return, but a stunning one due to the art of Juann Cabal. Visually, Juann doesn't gravitate towards the straightforward and linear. He's always up for trying something new. And this has meant I've been looking to play to those strengths and think outside the box. It's great when you get a chance to jam with an artist like this."

As for who or what exactly the Orphans of X are, that will remain under wraps for now, but they'll challenge Wolverine in some interesting new ways.

"We can't say much. Really. The Orphans of X are a mystery," Taylor says. "The only thing certain is they hate Laura and her family and they clearly have great means and reach. They could well be the most formidable adversaries Laura has ever come across.

"We balance everything with big action and big character moments," Taylor continues. "But there's a large mystery hanging over all of this and there are some big shocks coming. Wolverine is about to be tested in an all-new way."

Tom Taylor and Leonard Kirk seem to be on a mission to feature as many Marvel guest stars as possible in this series. Not that this is necessary a bad thing. Some of the book's best moments over the past two years have involved the goofy interplay among Laura, Gabby and whatever Marvel heroes happen to cross their paths. This issue continues to mine gold from the wonderful Gabby/Deadpool partnership, while also making the most of Laura's new team-up with the Guardians of the Galaxy. Kirk really makes the most of that eclectic alliance, rendering a hilarious scene where Laura confers with the Guardians while Jonathan the Wolverine has a run-in with Baby Groot in the background. I'm still frustrated by the inconsistent inking quality in this book, but Kirk's expressive characters and lively panels succeed regardless. And as lighthearted as this issue is, it's clear that Taylor will find ways to use this team-up to further Laura and Gabby's ongoing struggles. -Jesse

Laura Kinney has been dragged very far outside her comfort zone in this series post-IvX, and that's one of All-New Wolverine's biggest selling points. Tom Taylor and Leonard Kirk continue to make the most of the Wolverine/Guardians of the Galaxy team-up here, even using character traits like Drax's newfound pacifism and Rocket's hatred of animal lab testing to their advantage. This arc is also playing nicely on the sisterly bond that's formed between Laura and Gabby over the past couple years, showing that even an fast-healing, unfeeling mutant like Gabby can be put in real danger given the right situation. This issue also makes it clear exactly why Laura is being dragged into cosmic affairs and how this extended conflict ties back to some of her earlier adventures. The point being, Taylor clearly has long-term plans in mind. This issue also proves to be one of the book's strongest from a visual perspective. Leonard Kirk's art is heavily dependent on finding the right inker. And in this case, Kirk inks his own work, allowing for some of the rich, vibrant detail that has sometimes been lacking in previous issues. -Jesse

Often, it feels like the only thing holding this series back from rivaling the very best of Marvel's ongoing books is its inconsistent and sometimes mediocre art quality. David Lopez set a high standard on the opening story arc that has never been matched since. That may finally change as the series welcomes another new artist and kicks off its Marvel Legacy storyline. Juann Cabal immediately finds his place in this issue. Cabal was the highlight of the recent, short-lived Elektra series, and he's just at home with Laura Kinney. Cabal's sleek lines and expressive figures reinvigorate the book. And thanks to some inspired fashion choices and some inspired framing choices, his characters look just as dynamic and memorable out of costume as in. There's some concern that the series is treading into overly familiar territory as Tom Taylor again digs into Laura's tragic past. However, the addition of Daken and the emphasis on lingering threads from the Wolverine Origins days does help to spice up the new conflict. And certainly, the unexpected cliffhanger promises to shake up Laura's world in a big way. -Jesse
