Io invece non vedo l'ora di leggerlo, vista l'attuale gestione.
Reis è insuperabile, inutile tentare paragoni.
Questo non sembra male però...

Aquaman reaching its 50th issue doesn't carry the same significance as many other DC books given how much creative turnover there's been on this book of late. But if this issue doesn't feel especially momentous, writer Dan Abnett does make use of the boosted page count to deliver and fun and occasionally dramatic look at Aquaman trying to foster relations between Atlantis and the surface world and confronting a mysterious oceanic killer. Abnett's liberal use of humor is much appreciated, whether it's Aquaman battling the usual public image problems or Mera settling into her new role as Aquawoman. Meanwhile, the conflict has just enough danger to balance out this more lighthearted material. This issue also deserves credit for being one of DC's only #50 issues to be rendered by one artist. Brett Booth has his moments here, particularly when it comes to his creature designs and in depicting the cold, crushing blackness of the underwater void. However, his exaggerated facial work and oddly proportioned figures are frequently distracting, as if every character in the book is perpetually tensed up and ready to leap into action. -Jesse

Aquaman #50 (Published by DC Comics; Review by David Pepose; 'Rama Rating: 7 out of 10):

This 50th issue anniversary for Aquaman may be inconsistent, but I have to give Dan Abnett credit for trying to lend a fresh breath of characterization for Arthur Curry and his supporting cast. In many ways, Abnett is deeply channeling the compelling banter of The Flash TV show - but by virtue of having a static medium, there's no way for artist Brett Booth to really deliver all of Abnett's lines, which leads to an occasionally jarring read. Booth's cartoony style takes a little getting used to, but he winds up really leavening the sometimes staid Atlantis, and once Arthur gets to fighting a creature named Dead Water, the action looks incredible. That said, there are a few things that hold this book back: Abnett occasionally goes overboard with all the quips and jokes, which occasionally can feel grating, and while he gives a ton of voice to all of his other characters, Aquaman himself still feels a little too stoic for his own good. This is a disjointed but surprisingly decent showing for this often-overlooked book.

Aquaman #51 is an issue with an odd pacing, but compelling circumstances. Aquaman and Mera have captured the murderous creature Dead Water, who turns out to be a man named Jonah Payne. Jonah has no memory of his time as Dead Water, but the mere presence of water will turn him back into the creature. This leaves Aquaman and his team with no other choice but to deprive their prisoner of anything but the bare minimum of hydration. Dan Abnett gets a ton of credit for writing this story with tact and a certain amount of subtlety. They are essentially torturing their prisoner with this treatment but that fact is never forgotten, nor is it reveled in. Vicente Cifuentes likewise makes you feel the anguish but knows when to pull back. Ultimately, it doesn't feel like a lot happens in this issue, but what's there is good. - Levi
