If you thought you knew everything about Deadpool and have read all the Deadpool stories there are, you haven't been reading recent issues. Deadpool has to change the way he operates now.
The Good
Deadpool has pretty much always been a fan-favorite character. The problem became over-saturation. Thankfully the true Deadpool fans made it clear that we don't want anything with Deadpool but we want good comics with Deadpool. That's what Daniel Way has been giving us. Not only has Way been delivering great stories but he had recently changed Deadpool in a pretty big way.

Deadpool no longer has his healing factor. That's a big change for a crazy mercenary. He can't just charge into situations carelessly as he now can be hurt or worse. Not only can he seriously hurt, he got his butt handed to him last issue by Paste Pot Pete (aka Trapster). What can Deadpool do about this? Surprisingly he gets the idea try to get some training from an individual that fits in perfectly with Deadpool's history. I don't want to spoil it but I love the character.

There still is plenty of Deadpool zaniness to be seen. Deadpool goes on the type of mission that seems so obvious I often wonder why the 'bad guys' don't try this sort of thing more often. This is complemented by Shawn Crystal's art which just feels right when reading Deadpool stories.

The Bad
The direction of the series has become interesting but you still get that feeling that this is just a temporary change. Too often we see these big changes only to have them quickly reverted back to the status quo. I'd like to think that Daniel Way has it all mapped out but it gets hard to shake the feeling that Deadpool will be magically 'cured' somehow. The issue ends with a cliffhanger that feels like we might get more of what we just had, but again, we could probably expect more from Way.

The character that Deadpool seeks help from and teams up with is a frustrating one at times. We've seen so many different takes on him recently it's almost hard to know who he really is.

The Verdict
There has been debate how long Deadpool's current state of not having a healing factor will last. It's a great twist to change up the typical Deadpool story but you can't help but shake the feeling that it has to be a temporary change. Deadpool has to change the way he works and seeing him come up with an attempt at a solution is almost scary because it means Deadpool is actually thinking. Shawn Crystal's art is entertaining and we're treated to another trippy Dave Johnson cover. You have to hand it to Daniel Way for being able to stick with Deadpool for so many issues and continue to tell good stories rather than fall back on simple silly stories. As long as Daniel Way is writing Deadpool, we know we'll keep getting stories that Deadpool deserves.

Deadpool still doesn't have his healing factor. This isn't a good thing when old enemies start gunning for him.
The Good
It's hard to believe that after all this time, Deadpool has been re-invented in a way. Something as simple as removing his healing factor has caused a slight change to who he is. I think we're all in agreement that this is something that can't and most likely won't last. For now, it's resulting in some interesting stories.

Deadpool can no longer simply operate the way he used to. He has to actually think a little more carefully and obviously that's a scary thought right there. Now that Deadpool can actually be killed, he has to hope no one discovers his new status. Unfortunately, Taskmaster told Deadpool's old enemy, Black Box, this last issue. Now is the time for his old enemies that have been defeated to rise up and try to take advantage of Deadpool's vulnerability.

The result is Deadpool is now a target and has to fight in a different manner. He has to do some more planning and thinking. Somehow, he's able to make this adjustment. Seeing Deadpool deal with his current situation is a refreshing change but it still takes some getting used to.

The Bad
It may just be a plot device but it just feels so wrong to have Deadpool without a healing factor and having his old "good looks" back. It's funny to see the fact that Deadpool still hasn't accepted the loss of his little finger but you can't help but wonder how long this will last. We are seeing a sort of evolution in his character. He is having to think a little more before acting. That's great, but again, feels out of character from the wacky and zany Deadpool we all love. He's always been so dangerously nonsensical and seeing him plan ahead is just weird.

Seeing Deadpool on a toilet is not a sight I needed burned into my mind.

The Verdict
This isn't the Deadpool you're used to. Still without his healing factor, Deadpool is adjusting to having hair and good looks while still waiting for his severed finger to grow back. Seeing characters go through major changes can keep them fresh but there's the question of how much is too much of a change? Long time comic readers can't help but be skeptical when it comes to changes. We all assume we'll see the return of the Deadpool we know but because there is potential in telling some slightly different Deadpool stories, these shouldn't be ignored. Daniel Way is showing he has plenty of ideas and stories to tell with Deadpool and the fact we don't know where all this is going makes it that much more fun.

Deadpool wants to kill the entire Marvel Universe? And a 'parental advisory' on the cover? How can we not check this out?
There are many kinds of Deadpool stories. This one is bound to catch you off guard.

The Good
We've seen the Marvel Universe get "killed" before courtesy of Punisher. Now it's Deadpool's turn. You can imagine the wacky shenanigans that could result and you might be tempted to avoid this out of fear of it being a purely satirical story. Let's just say that when Deadpool comes after the Fantastic Four, it's not really funny. This is Deadpool the killer versus Deadpool the goofy comedy relief. There are some 'funny' moments but this is him as a mercenary on a mission. In other words, the parental advisory is on the cover for a reason. This scene will leave a slight heavy feeling in your gut.

The premise is simple. It makes sense. There's a reason for Deadpool's actions. We don't get the full story just yet. There's enough of a tease to make you want to see more. Deadpool is just starting off here. It gets ugly but it's bound to get even uglier in the coming issues. Deadpool definitely has the skills and ambition to take on pretty much anyone. Seeing him take on characters like the Fantastic Four will make you appreciate what he's capable of. Just be prepared for the results.

The Bad
Maybe it's just me, but I prefer my Deadpool with a little more funny over deadly. I mentioned that we have seen different varieties of Deadpool but there were times I felt the story getting a little too dark. When I envisioned a comic with Deadpool killing the entire Marvel Universe, I pictured a more comedic approach. Perhaps taking a darker and more serious approach gives the story more meaning rather than being seen as more of a joke. I like Deadpool being deadly but when he steers away from his usual self, it feels like a different character. Some may want a more serious Deadpool but after all the humor, it feels like another character wearing the costume.

The Verdict
Does Deadpool have what it takes to kill the entire Marvel Universe? Based on this first issue, he's off to a good start. Readers shouldn't expect the typical Deadpool story as this issue earns the parental advisory slapped on the cover. We have seen different version of Deadpool and this goes along with the darker and less goofier versions. As with these types of stories, you have to wonder how much they'll matter in the grand scheme of comics. We know the entire Marvel Universe can't really be killed. I expected a lighter and more humorous story but there could be something to this more serious approach. I'll definitely be checking out the next issue to see where this is going to go. It's a little disturbing and that makes it clear that this isn't a simple goofy story with Deadpool thrown in just for kicks. If you like your Deadpool less funny and more violent, you'll get a kick out of this.
