With all the crossovers and "events" going on, is there room for one with Punisher, Spider-Man and Daredevil? If you've read this issue and Part 1, you know what the answer is.
Punisher, Spider-Man and Daredevil are three completely different types of heroes. Yet they make a fascinating team even though they don't really like each other.

The Good
I am not a fan of these types of crossovers. I do not like when part one is in one series, part two in another, etc. Despite that, I am completely digging this story. We have so many crossovers and events going on but this mini one is able to hold its own with no problem.

What makes this crossover great is each character is different and gets to stay true to who they are. Spider-Man acts like Spider-Man; Punisher acts like Punisher...except does his best to restrain from killing. One of my favorite parts is seeing Spider-Man's witty/annoying banter and how the others do their absolute best to try to ignore it. Greg Rucka has been killing in on this title (no pun intended) but to see him so beautifully write the three distinct characters and mesh it all together is brilliant. We've seen crossovers and guest appearances often give a pale imitation of the the character we see in their own title. Reading this issue makes me want to see more of this kind of thing. If we can get crossover stories of this caliber, I'm 100% for them.

I can't get enough of Marco Checchetto's art. I may not have reviewed any of the last few issues of Punisher (as other staff members had the opportunity) but I've been a fan of this series from the beginning. Rucka and Checchetto have been doing remarkable things with the character and make it look so easy.

The Bad
If there was anything that bothered me, it is the fact that this takes place in three different series. Also, part one was in AVENGING SPIDER-MAN. That means we got a free digital download with the issue. I would've loved to get one for this part as well. Sure the comic is a dollar cheaper but if I want this digitally to go with part one, I'll have to pay full price (again).

As much as I love the trio of Punisher, Spider-Man and Daredevil, it's strange to think that Spidey and DD wouldn't try to bring more help. They are both members of the Avengers and Spider-Man is also part of the Fantastic Four/Future Foundation. With all that's at stake, you would think they'd bring in as much help as possible.

The Verdict
Part one was great and, no surprise, this one is as well. Punisher, Spider-Man and Daredevil have different tactics and views but with all their past run ins, they can easily put them aside when necessary. Rucka and Checchetto have made this a great series and this crossover has been a welcomed and complete surprise. It is unfortunate that each part of the story takes place in a different comic. It's even more unfortunate that this will only last three issues. PUNISHER is a great series and this crossover is continuing to be a blast to read.

"Punisher" #10 delivers the second installment of the three-part "The Omega Effect" crossover with "Avenging Spider-Man" and "Daredevil." Not surprisingly, it's a great comic book with Greg Rucka and Marco Checchetto doing what they do so very well for this character.

Rucka makes the most of this issue, auditioning to potential new readers by displaying the full scope of Punisher's motivation and dedication to his cause, even going so far as to depict some scenes and settings we simply haven't been privy to yet, like how Punisher gets his skull icon shirts. It's not mind-blowing, but it is character building and it serves as a nice peek into what passes for Frank Castle's private life. This is the first time we've actually had spandex-clad heroes spend a significant amount of time hanging around the pages of Punisher and Rucka makes the most of it. His Spider-Man is gabby and obnoxious, like the young child trying to satisfy his curiosity at the expense of a diligently working adult's sanity. Except Spider-Man is slightly more annoying on purpose and the adult in question just so happens to be the Punisher. Thus, the trend established in the first chapter of "The Omega Effect" continues as Rucka is coerced into having Punisher speak more in this issue than the standard set.

In the twenty pages of "The Omega Effect," Rucka never tips readers off as to the Punisher's plans or thoughts about his erstwhile allies or the situation they are placed in against Megacrime, the conglomeration of A.I.M., Hydra, Black Spectre, Agence Byzantine and the Secret Empire. Additionally, Sergeant Rachel Cole-Alves and the running bit of her name being incomplete whenever anyone else addresses her, stands alongside Punisher and is presented with the opportunity to prove herself -- to Rucka, to readers and most importantly to the Punisher.

Marco Checchetto's art is nothing short of stunning. The artist draws a very real-world based Daredevil costume and puts Daredevil and Spider-Man firmly in the grungy underworld Punisher inhabits. Checchetto doesn't just stop with the main characters in this tale though. His backgrounds are richly detailed and substantial. You can almost hear the shocks on Punisher's van as Spider-Man lights on the roof. When it comes to Megacrime, Checchetto draws A.I.M. goons and Hydra footsoldiers facing off in a wonderfully fantastic image to offer up to fans of the Marvel Universe.

Although this is the middle segment of a three-part story, Rucka and Checchetto make it every bit as enjoyable and approachable as the opener or finale. The major difference here, however, is that the stakes are raised in this issue and the imaginary soundtrack music is reaching a deafening crescendo on the final page. This story is in high gear and there's simply no walking away from it now.

The problem with being the quiet one isn't always an obvious one — that is, until you're in a room with a person that talks and talks and talks.

Case in point: Frank Castle. Greg Rucka's take on Punisher has been an exercise in minimalism in character, with Frank as a silent killer, all business, no quips. Unfortunately, alongside Daredevil and Spider-Man — two of Marvel's three best books right now, alongside Wolverine and the X-Men — that also makes it feel like Frank has no personality, either. With Spidey and DD pushing the plot along and providing all of the exposition and moral conflict, Frank is simply left as a complication, but not particularly a challenging one, and it makes this chapter of "The Omega Effect" slump from the last installment, even in spite of some gorgeous art.

Of course, the term "slump" is all relative. While Frank Castle more or less gets overshadowed in his own book — even his new partner, the widow Rachel Cole-Alves, gets more screen time than he does — Rucka still brings some nice riffs off the other two protagonists of this piece, Spider-Man and Daredevil. Unlike last installment, Rucka is flying without Mark Waid, and it is interesting to note that the more visual elements of the last chapter — ninjas flying off buildings, radar senses illuminating the page — are nowhere to be found. Instead, this is a slower, talkier chapter, but if you slow down and take it all in, you'll find some good moments here, from Spider-Man quipping about cake to Daredevil trying to stop someone from taking on Frank's dark path. The character dynamic is still there — this feels like a story with Spider-Man, Daredevil and the Punisher, with no one feeling interchangeable — but there is a spark missing here, something that keeps this story from true A-game.

But I wouldn't say that about the art. Marco Checchetto has this style that I can only describe as "gritty cartoon," with his characters looking both gorgeous with their smooth lines and ready for blood with the jagged shadows that cut across their faces. Unlike the last issue, there aren't really any knock-down, drag-out fight sequences to really let Checchetto cut loose, but there are a few panels where you see Daredevil and Spidey fly through the air in the middle of some melees that looks particularly dynamic. Colorist Matt Hollingsworth does keep the mood going, with some darker washes really evoking this grimy, street-level feel. That said, I'm not 100 percent sold yet on Checchetto's expressions, however — Rachel, for example, looks intense when she's ready to take a life, but she doesn't quite look conflicted enough to stop. That might have been a direction in the script, but at the same time, it would have been nice to see a little more "acting" going on here.

In certain regards, Punisher #10 does do a lot right — the characters work well together, there's some action involved, a nice cliffhanger, some beautiful art. But as far as showing the Punisher's point of view, well, it doesn't exactly do Frank any favors. You can't always bat a thousand, and this comic still stands higher than much of its competition... but that still doesn't make this less of a sophomore slump.
