Black Lightning: Greg Berlanti's TV Series Gets Pilot Production Commitment From FOX

Following last week's announcement that Arrow producer Greg Berlanti is developing a TV series based on the superhero Black Lightning, the upcoming DC Comics show has struck a deal with FOX.

According to Variety, the network has made a pilot production commitment, which indicates FOX is heavily invested in the project but it's not a guarantee that it will definitely go to series.

The series will center around Jefferson Pierce, an African-American DC Comics superhero known as Black Lightning who can generate and control lightning. After having hung up his suit years prior, Pierce is pulled back into the life of a hero after his daughter begins fighting for justice and a student is caught up in a local gang.

In addition to Berlanti, Sarah Schechter is executive producing the project, which is being written by the husband-and-wife team of Salim and Mara Brock Akil.

In addition to Black Lighting, FOX made a put pilot commitment for Marvel Television's new untitled X-Men TV project from Burn Notice creator Matt Nix. The network is also home to the Batman prequel series Gotham and the Vertigo-inspired Lucifer.
