This series has a bad habit of wearing its influences on its sleeve and retreading ground covered by iconic Justice League stories of yesteryear. With this new arc, writer Bryan Hitch and artist Fernando Pasarin reach across the aisle and tackle a conflict very reminiscent (whether intentionally or not) of Marvel's animated movie Next Avengers. The basic premise is eerily similar, as the League's descendants fight for survival in a dystopian future ruled by an all-powerful villain. At least the time travel element brings something new to the table, and the prospect of the JLA meeting their own children certainly holds weight. There's also no denying Fernando Pasarin's skill in bringing this dystopian world to life. As always, this series has plenty of scale to its visuals, and there's a real sense of power to the battle between the future League and their enemy, the Sovereign. More concerning than any similarities to past stories, though, is the questionable characterization. I'm not thrilled with the direction Hitch seems to be pushing Wonder Woman, as it runs completely against the grain of the character as she exists in DC Rebirth. -Jesse

Curiosissimo di vedere il nuovo team, la JL fumettistica deve avere una portata superiore a questa

I'm not entirely sure what to make of the Justice League's children from the future. It's an intriguing idea for Bryan Hitch's final storyline, but he spends almost 15 pages of this issue on the introduction between the League and their kids, as well as some of their relevant backstory. But many of those interactions feel redundant, and it probably could have been handled in half as many scenes. Hitch really doesn't leave much space for anything else to happen, although the issue does have a very brief action sequence before the end. One of the disadvantages of this story is that it asks the readers to believe that Wonder Woman did something very out-of-character while dealing with her son, and that's the aspect that makes the League's children seem like liars... even with the golden lasso confirming her son's story. Fernando Pasarin's art seems like a pretty close match for Hitch's style, but it would be more rewarding if Hitch gave him more to do than depicting a handful of characters standing around for the whole issue. This is one of those occasions where the comic may work better in the trade paperback than as a standalone issue. It's good, but it felt like it should have had more. -Blair
