What is this, Assistant Editors Month? That may have been a Marvel thing back in the '80s, but this Justice League fill-in issue wouldn't have been too far out of place for that event. Strangely enough, this issue feels like it could have been published in the '70s. It definitely reads like a much safer and kid-friendly Justice League tale than we normally get. Shea Fontana's done-in-one alien infestation is pretty by the numbers and not particularly exciting. What Fontana does well is the way that she brings the characters together, including Lois Lane and Batman, as well as Cyborg and Jonathan Kent/Superboy. Those pairings and their interactions went a long way towards making this an enjoyable read. Phil Briones is no Bryan Hitch, but his style has some goofy charm as well. This isn't what I want from Justice League on a regular basis, but as a one-off, it's fine. -Blair

Eh c'è una ragione dietro tutti questi fill-ins, a quanto pare dovevamo avere un altro storyarc intitolato "Only Human" e "Afterlives" come si può leggere anche dalle vecchie solicits, solo che è stato posticipato per...qualche ragione.
Almeno il prossimo numero sembra interessante dato che riprenderà la storyline di Aquaman #25.
Oh e dovremo tenerci Hitch almeno fino JL #44! Porca di quella merda, io speravo in un rilancio, considerando il film e Doomsday Clock, ma nada.
Dovremo accontentarci di Trinity...

Last week, I was only joking when I thought that DC was doing an Assistant Editor's Month that was similar to Marvel's decades old event. And yet here's another fill-in issue by Tom DeFalco, one of the oldest of old-school Marvel creators that you're ever going to find. DeFalco has a pretty good history as a writer, but this is not one of his better efforts. If Jessica Cruz wasn't the Green Lantern in this issue than it could have easily been published at any point in the last 25 years. It's not even a bad issue; it just has an overly simplistic take on Black Shield and his terrorist/freedom fighter tactics. This comic reads like it was created to come with an action figure that's geared towards kids. As for the art, it's always a pleasure to see Tom Derenick on a superhero title. Derenick sometimes gets overlooked, but I've always enjoyed his style. Fortunately, it looks like he'll be back on this title in the near future, and that's something to look forward to. -Blair

Un numero godibile, scritto e disegnato bene e poi la presenza di Mera non può che farmi contento. Però mi aspetto molto di più da questa testata che si riduce troppo spesso ad episodi inutili o scritti male. Urge un team buono, ma nell'immediato dobbiamo tenerci Hitch

HA! Ok, Abnett sarà anche di parte, ma tutto sommato concordo sulla sua visione di Mera e, implicitamente, anche quella di Aquaman all'interno della JL!
Il modo in cui Mera ha usato i suoi poteri contro la JL non era affatto male eh!
Fortuna che Abnett ha deciso di non cazzeggiare con Supes e Wondie, però...sarebbe stato interessante...

This issue is the latest in a series of standalone issues featuring guest creative teams, though in this case said guest team is really the issue's big selling point. It's great seeing artist Ian Churchill trying his hand at the series and playing with the big icons of DC Rebirth. Churchill's clean lines and powerfully rendered figures make him feel right at home alongside series mainstays like Bryan Hitch and Fernando Pasarin. Fans of Dan Abnett's Aquaman run will want to add this issue to their reading pile, as it's basically an offshoot of the new Aquaman status quo and a sort of welcoming party for Mera as she joins up with the League. The story pretty much boils down to "Mera beats up the Justice League" for the first half, but the latter half finds success in exploring Mera's loneliness and alienation. If Rebirth is all about building and repairing relationships, then this issue is another critical step in that process. -Jesse
