DC's REBIRTH Pulls VAN SCIVER Off GREEN LANTERN CORPS



Van Sciver was the artist of Green Lantern: Rebirth, the mini-series that first used that title at DC, and is one of the spiritual inspirations for the initiative. Van Sciver also expressed his hope that he'll get to work with Edge of Oblivion writer Tom Taylor on future projects, perhaps insinuating that the pair will work together on a Rebirth title.

Speaking of Rebirth, Van Sciver also shared an ultrasound of his unborn child bearing a suspiciously photoshopped looking Green Lantern ring with the caption "Green Lantern: Prebirth."

We can only hope that Tom Taylor is writing one of the upcoming Green Lantern titles in the DC Rebirth relaunch. This mini-series is, like Injustice: Gods Among Us before it, a showcase for how well Taylor understands the Green Lantern franchise and can play with its many toys. The conflict hits closer to home in this issue as our heroes reel from the big deaths in issue #2 and begin fighting among themselves. And with the ticking clock that is the end of the universe hanging over their heads, this book has all the drama and impetus it needs to carry readers through the final three issues. Whether the series can retain its appeal without Ethan Van Sciver is the real question. This issue is, unfortunately, Van Sciver's last on the book. But he definitely goes out on a high note with his ultra-detailed and emotionally charged pencils. Van Sciver's bold, ambitious approach to perspective results in several panels of incredible scope. -Jesse
