"How does DC follow up the previous, universally acclaimed volume of Swamp Thing? Rather than try to retread the same ground Scott Snyder and Charles Soule covered, this new series takes Swamp Thing back to a simpler, more innocent time. For the most part it works. This book is worth the price of admission solely for Kelley Jones' bold, dramatic, even Gothic depiction of the leafy giant. This is a Swamp Thing that oozes power and rage and strength rather than being an innocent denizen of the bayou. Jones' horror-oriented style is perfect for this sort of throwback book, one that pays more homage to the early Swamp Thing comics than the contemporary, post-Alan Moore fare. Wein takes what seems to be an intentionally melodramatic approach to his script. This works when it comes to the narration and its captivating account of life in the swamp. Unfortunately, it's less successful in terms of Alec Holland's dialogue, which comes across as stilted and too far far removed form the character we've been reading for the past several decades." -Jesse
