Lunella Lafayette is only nine years old, but her struggle is one readers of all ages can sympathize with: do I protect myself from possible embarrassment and humiliation, or do I help a friend in need? Brandon Montclare and Amy Reeder let Lunella avoid her activation as an Inhuman while realizing she is the only person who can rescue Devil Dinosaur from captivity. What's unexplained thus far in this series is Lunella's stark attitude against Inhuman transformation. Is she simply terrified of being different than the majority of people, or is antipathy towards Inhumans commonplace? While this premise of Lunella's world needs to be built out more, Natacha Bustos and Tamra Bonvillain make every panel a delight.

A new arc begins for Lunella Lafayette, a young science prodigy who undergoes what she has been desperately avoiding: her activation as an Inhuman. While Lunella tries to pinpoint her mysterious abilities, Brandon Montclare and Amy Reeder introduce a character who feels equally out of place. Mel-Varr is a Kree boy whom we immediately feel sympathy for because of his overbearing father. The writers capture both Mel-Varr's humiliation and Lunella's indignation at having a new academic rival. Marco Failla and Tamra Bonvillain create a lively classroom setting for the characters, and Bonvillain's glossy colors, especially of Devil Dinosaur's bright red appearance, look fantastic. Moon Girl is an all-ages title done right: a story about friendship and identity, charming characters, and lots of laughs.

It's not every day you get to switch bodies with a dinosaur, but that's what happens to Lunella Lafayette, whiz kid and newly activated Inhuman. Through her internal monologue, Brandon Montclare and Amy Reeder let the reader sympathize with Lunella's horrified realization: What if she's stuck like this forever? Natacha Bustos and Tamra Bonvillain illustrate physical comedy perfectly as Lunella, in her first moments in dinosaur form, knocks over her inventions and makes a mess. You can feel Lunella's isolation when Bustos skillfully frames a lunchroom where everyone stares at her. Bonvillain takes these emotional moments and energizes them accordingly with bright, high-contrast palettes. I also love the representation of an ethnically diverse student body. Moon Girl is a delight for readers of all ages, and Bustos and Bonvillain are a one-two punch of artistic talent.
