Vertigo: Progetti Futuri 2.0

This recent slew of character and origin-focused one-shots has mostly been a success from Kurt Busiek and his many guest artists. There's not a lot about this issue specifically to move it from the "success" pile to the "failure" one, and taken on its own it's yet another example from Busiek that old-school style comics can be good in modern times. But in the larger context of recent Astro City, this story just feels like a retread with nothing particularly new or interesting to say. The structure and plot are both fine by themselves, but the "cartoons in real life" story closely reflects the "going into the video game world" story of last issue in multiple ways. The origin is also well-handled, but just not special, and that seems to echo the entire issue – well-handled but nothing special. It feels like this series needs a little kick in the butt to keep from burning readers out. –Levi
