Whereas Frostbite's debut was almost overrun with setup, issue #2 presents darn near the opposite. His concept in play, Joshua Williamson puts the bulk of the focus here on the world, and how his characters hope to survive the challenges within it. There's an undoubtedly interesting dynamic in play, what with Keaton needing Victoria to help cure her of her illness, while also harboring the secret of Victoria's murdered father. And yet, Williamson's dialogue is so on-the-nose in presenting those connections that it almost ruins seeing them play out. Secrets are well and good, but with everyone announcing their grievances aloud it's a wonder they're still secrets at all. On the visual end, Jason Shawn Alexander and Luis NCT again impress with their detail and tone. Alexander's heavy lines are made all the more oppressive by NCT's bleak hues, their sense of setting thus far the book's strongest, and most consistent, element. -Jeff

Having gone big in ramping up her last arc, Gail Simone's latest reads as significantly more restrained. The book still contains plenty of grisly visuals and unnerving frights, but for now Simone appears more content to explore the repercussions of recent events. The choice to scale back allows for some welcome insight, as both Astrid and Chloe undergo noticeable, if entirely different, changes. More importantly, these changes feel well earned and organic to Simone's carefully constructed narrative, making the duos assumed, if dubious, alliance something to look forward to. Complex characterization aside, the real fun is again seeing what horrors Jon Davis-Hunt comes up with. He doesn't disappoint, his clean, idyllic world broken up by gnarled tentacles and a healthy blood splatter. An excellent blend of deviance, humor and horror, Clean Room continues to thrill. -Jeff

After a very promising debut, Tim Seeley's comic book sequel to 1987's Lost Boys accomplishes the important task of broadening the scope of the film's story while remaining true to its roots. Though the characters only share a basic physical resemblance to their real world counterparts, this still feels like the same Santa Carla we saw depicted in Joel Schumacher's cult classic. It also answers the ultimate question of whether or not Kiefer Sutherland's David really died at the end of the movie (obvious Spoiler alert: he didn't). There's much more horror than comedy at play here, and perhaps things are a bit more serious than fans remember, but a garlic-filled Salad Shooter helps balance everything out. With the introduction of The Believer, we are officially in uncharted territory. This new character's look is capably rendered by Scott Godlewski, whose work helps make this feel like a truly organic sequel. - Joe
