Action Comics #45 (Published by DC Comics; Review by David Pepose; 'Rama Rating: 6 out of 10):

Removing Superman's secret identity and much of his superpowers was meant to bring him down to Earth, but Greg Pak and Aaron Kuder's latest issue of Action Comics still doesn't quite handicap the Man of Steel. For a comic that's been pretty striking in the past, Greg Pak and Aaron Kuder's story feels a little uneven here, with an extended look at Clark Kent's new trucker identity as "Archie Clayton" and a high-tech shack in the middle of nowhere. Where does Clark get all these wonderful toys, especially with no paper trail and a face that's been plastered all over the news? Pak and Kuder throw in a little bit of action towards the end of this issue, but it feels perfunctory, with the everpresent shadow creature threat feeling a little underdeveloped. Scott Kollins delivers some clean, beautiful art, however, which makes this sleepy story at least look good. A slow chapter in an otherwise solid run.

Stories involving Superman turning evil or becoming corrupted are nothing new. We're seeing that play out in the pages of Justice League right now. Even so, Greg Pak finds something new out of this old chestnut as he explores an infected Superman confronting Wrath. Pak strikes a balance between letting Clark's darker side come out while still respecting the fundamentally good man beneath. If anything, this reads less like "Evil Superman" and more like a weary hero finally getting the chance to cut loose and enjoy himself again. It's unfortunate that Aaron Kuder doesn't handle the art in this issue (though he's at least credit for the story). But Scott Kolins is no slouch, and he brings an energetic vibe to this issue that doesn't fall too far from Kuder's familiar aesthetic. -Jesse

Action Comics #46 (Published by DC Comics; Review by Justin Partridge, III; 'Rama Rating: 7 out of 10):

While Superman may not be a character known for his anger Action Comics #46 shows that even the best of us are capable of rage. After stumbling upon Wraith's nefarious experiments, Clark is infected by her Black Mass and slowly starts to succumb to its influence. Greg Pak once again shows us the human side of Clark, but this time instead of focusing on his inherent goodness, he focuses instead on his long buried rage, which makes Action Comics #46 interesting despite the transitional nature of its plot. Action Comics #46 also looks a bit unhinged thanks to artist Scott Kolins' rough-hewn and somewhat ill-defined style, a jarring change of pace from the tight visuals of Aaron Kuder. While not an altogether horrible installment, Action Comics #46 feels like a bit of a stumbling block amidst a consistently solid crop of issues.

Superman vs....? Poco importa c'è sempre un vs ora che non è più il Supes di una volta!
Non c'è una storia vera, a differenza di Batman, le Supes testate sono molto più legate e quindi si fanno leggere, ma onestamente non vedo l'ora che arrivi sto maledetto #50 così smettono di perdere tempo con storielle per Bats/Supes e non solo!

If nothing else, Action Comics #47 is a prime example of the power inkers can have over the finished art product. Tear through every printed word in this comic and, try as you might, you will not find another credited penciller outside of Georges Jeanty. The four inkers who embellish Jeanty's pencils create at least three unique and distinctive styles - none of which are remotely bad, but that all fail to gel into a cohesive whole. On the story side of things, this issue pays off Superman's brief flirtation with evil in a nice and "hokey-in-a-good-way" manner, though that too is marred by shortcuts, this time in the form of an abrupt ending. This book's so-so issues are made even more frustrating than an average series because of its frequent brushes with greatness. –Levi
