Keith Giffen, J.M. DeMatteis and Scott Kolins' new Larfleeze ongoing series kicks off June 26, and DC is calling it a "massive status quo change for the Green Lantern franchise."
The publisher offers this clue as to why - "REVOLT."

"We're taking Larfleeze off to the farthest edges of the DCU and our plan is to go full out Kirby Kosmic, while, of course, layering our brand of demented humor on top of that," DeMatteis recently revealed in an interview. "Keith and I have been talking for years about wanting to do a big cosmic book together and Larfleeze will allow us to do just that. As for the rest of the DCU, our intention is to introduce new characters, not depend on pre-existing ones. The overall goal, of course, is to have fun: after all, it's a book about an orange lunatic named Larfleeze. You have to have a sense of humor when you approach this material."

sono sempre sul chi va là quando un grande personaggio inventato da un grandissimo autore passa in altre mani....il rischio della perdita totale della caratterizzazione originale, o anche solo di sprecare l'occasione rovinando il personaggio ci sono tutti.

Vedi Atrocitus in Red Lanterns, che diventa un pirlone che si fa mettere i piedi in testa da quella sciacquetta di Bleez.

....però in questo caso ci credo, perchè la scritta J.M. Dematteis scalda il cuore.

Da questa serie vorrei che si recuperasse la primissima caratterizzazione, abbandonata pure dallo stesso Johns, che vedeva Larfleeze come un pazzo assassino pressochè onnipotente (racchiude il potere di un intero Corpo in un unica Lanterna, quindi a spanne dovrebbe essere dalle parti di un'entità come Parallax come livello)

purtroppo negli anni si è preferito puntare sul lato comico del personaggio, ma preferirei un equilibrio tra le due componenti + che la macchietta che è diventato.

Vedo che nella prima pagina mostrata si ripercorre l'origine del personaggio....chissà che la serie non affronti anche uno dei + grandi misteri lasciati per strada dal sempiterno Mr. Geoff: chi ha creato la Lanterna Arancione, e perchè si trova in un tempio che, da come ho capito, apparteneva agli Psions?

già mi stupisco pure io... però accidenti, il dialogo in terza persona sta bene solo ad un grande personaggio dei fumetti: il Dottor Destino.

And now, for something completely different — Keith Giffen and J.M. DeMatteis channel their inner "Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" for this comedic, crude spin on the Orange Lantern known as Larfleeze. This departure from the ultra-serious Green Lantern books is refreshing, even as Giffen and DeMatteis skew a little juvenile in their sense of humor (such as when Larleeze's mother squats down, births him, and then drags him around by the umbilical cord). Scott Kolins adds in some nice sight gags with Larfleeze's goofy mug, particularly a panel when he buries his ultra-punchy wife. That said, the humor here is definitely an acquired taste, and if you're not buying the Orange Lantern concept, this book might not be what convinces you. Still, the change in tone makes all the difference, adding a little bit of light to the gloomy Green Lantern mythos.

A new menace threatens the universe and only Larfleeze stands in his way-so basically, we're doomed. Co-writers Keith Giffen and J.M. Dematteis continue to entertain me in their latest pairing. Their fans will catch the familiar formula quickly, with Larfleeze's butler serving as the  man this time while the Orange Lantern does his best latter-day Daffy Duck impression. Scott Kollins matches the insanity well, making up for the lack of Maguire. He draws on a cosmic scope, yet able to produce character designs that are right out of Looney Tunes, creating a visual juxtaposition that matches the irreverent script. He's a big part of why the broad comedy works in this unlikely satire of space opera that fans of BWA-HA-HA need to grab.
