Castellucci and Melo's FEMALE FURIES Stand Up Against Darkseid

FEMALE FURIES is an exciting new six-issue mini-series featuring some of Jack Kirby's coolest Fourth World characters, brought to life by Cecil Castellucci (SHADE, THE CHANGING GIRL) and Adriana Melo (PLASTIC MAN). Debuting February 2019, Castellucci and Melo's story takes a look at the early days of Apokolips, where Granny Goodness, Big Barda, and the Female Furies all suffer under the rule of Darkseid and Darkseid's Elite.

"Female Furies takes place smack in the middle of Jack Kirby's original Fourth World," said Castellucci, "so if you know Kirby's New Gods well you'll have a familiar understanding of the key players and their motivations. However, you don't need prior knowledge of Apokolips to enter this story; just remember that there are often terrible people in power...and then there are the people who are being held down by them."

For their entire lives, the Female Furies have been raised to be the meanest, most cunning, and ruthless fighting force on all of Apokolips. So why is it that Granny Goodness' girls are left behind every time the men go to war? With the might of New Genesis hanging over the planet, and the Forever People making mincemeat of Darkseid's army, Granny thinks it's time all of that changed.

"I'm playing with the core elements of female relationships within the ranks of the Furies," continued Castellucci, "but I'm also aiming to deconstruct their relationships and look at how systemic misogyny and harassment contribute to some storytelling stereotypes. While you can see infighting and power struggles  in some stories about the Female Furies, the fact is that the Furies are kept down by the circumstances of where they live and who is in power. Naturally, these women are strong and capable, so this story is meant to try to blow up some of those stereotypes and look at them with a new view, especially in this moment of time."
It's against that backdrop that the Female Furies—Big Barda, Aurelie, Mad Harriet, Lashina, Bernadeth, and Stompa—set out to beat the boys at their own game. Little do they know, the game is rigged and the suffering cycle continues to repeat. One mistake could spell disaster for our heroines!

"My best advice going into Female Furies? Remember the classic phrase 'Keep your friends close and your enemies closer,'" concluded Castellucci. "Jack Kirby's over-the-top type of comic book characters are like our modern-day myths and fairy tales. They're flexible and able to withstand different kinds of interpretations of their story. In fact, shaking it up actually enriches and deepens those characters. Just as the Furies and Granny are more complex in my story, so are Darkseid and his Elite. Darkseid and his henchmen can withstand a little harsh light shed on them."

Bene! Io non conosco il writer, però devo dire che da queste sue parole, la direzione che vuole prendere sembra molto interessante.

Comunque sia, sono solo felice di poter avere altra dose del Quarto Mondo di Kirby, specialmente ora che sta per concludersi il Mister Miracle di King!

Meanwhile, Aurelie's tormentor, Protector Wiliks, applies more pressure on her. Does he know more than he lets on? Regardless, it's affecting Aurelie's ability to lead the Furies, causing friction between her and Big Barda and forcing Granny Goodness to take drastic action.

Vediamo di usare bene i Forever People, King ci ha solo sputato sopra....letteralmente!

Allora bellissime matite, veramente di mio gusto, mentre per quanto riguarda la storia BOH.
Era partita anche molto bene, sembrava che il writer avesse qualcosa da raccontare, poi a random è diventata una trashata pazzesca, ogni panel urlava "women empowerment", ho capito che in Murica pensano solo a queste cose, sempre lì a menarla con le solite storie con le donne, e che devono avere gli stessi diritti, se non loro, gli african-american, che due palle oh.
Fosse almeno gestito bene, invece no.
Il writer ha voluto palesare così tanto le sue tematiche, che...lol, ha inserito Darkseid in un cooking show, della serie "le donne meritano solo di stare in cucina" ad Apokolips eh, no dico, le FEMALE FURIES eh!
Questo vuol dire non aver capito un cazz di come funzionano le cose/pg lì.
Però anche questo non è interamente vero, perchè le origini di Granny Goodness, quello che Darkseid ha fatto con lei...eh, quella era roba abbastanza dark, poi sinceramente io non vedo Darkseid sotto questa luce, ma ci sta i guess....

Mi sa che da questo difficilmente si scappa. Anche la scelta di mettere una donna sulla testata credo vada in questa direzione.

Potevano prendere molte strade onestamente, ma siccome ci troviamo in un periodo un po' così, pure qua la gente pensa di parlare di #Metoo (no sul serio) , sexual objectification di una donna ecc...
Qua hanno praticamente spuntato la casella di tutti i cliché, vabbo.
Per carità, non è che non siano temi interessanti da sviluppare in un comic, ahimè è proprio usando questa scusa che ormai vengo bombardato da queste cose in ogni singolo medium, ho le palle piene.
Fosse gestito bene poi...nemmeno quello.
