Batgirl # 7 is a very strange beast. Barbara Gordon finally arrives back in Burnside, and even she's calling it a "parallel Burnside" where the tech industry has started to force out the local shops and drive up the rents at a ridiculous rate. While that is a very modern problem, it's introduced in a very jarring way as Larson appears to write out the majority of Babs' supporting cast. After decades of watching Batgirl display her hacking skills, it's also bizarre to see Babs embrace a major in Library Sciences. Really? She's gonna be a librarian again? Is that where this is going? On top of that, apparently the Penguin has a college-age son who isn't outwardly hideous. Sure, why not? Of course, this does seem to be an excuse to tease a Batgirl/Son of the Penguin romance while dropping hints that he takes after his dad. Chris Wildgoose's art is also a bit disappointing, as many of his character's faces look the same. Some of Wildgoose's pages have decent layouts and action, but the panels are simply unexciting to look at. -Blair
