Peter Quill reluctantly succeeding his father as the Emperor of Spartax was easily the most intriguing status quo shift to impact this series for All-New, All-Different Marvel. Sadly, the outcome of the previous story arc seems to be little more than cutting Quill's tenure short. There's some appeal in seeing Star-Lord and Kitty Pryde reunited and trying to pick up the broken pieces of their romance, but that drains away over the course of this issue. This issue focuses entirely too much on their banter and squabbling, with little tangible progress for either character. But it's little better off when the tone makes a more serious shift, as seen in a painfully overwrought scene where Kitty realizes she's fighting inside an alien concentration camp. This issue gets by mainly on the strength of Valerio Schiti's artwork. Schiti is given ample opportunity to showcase Kitty's powers as she soars through the air and wreaks havoc on her would-be jailers. -Jesse

If this kind of storytelling keeps up, The Thing and Rocket Raccoon could become one of the Marvel Universe's next great bromances. Brian Bendis has found a perfect repartee between these two loudmouthed and lovable characters. Even more than Bendis' dialogue, the growing spark between these two comes from Valerio Schiti emotive character work. You get the feeling that Valerio was born to draw these two, at least when colored by Richard Isanove's assured coloring. The spark in Rocket's eyes as The Thing takes out an army of Badoon in one swift cannonball dive is all you need to know about the fun and charm of this well-illustrated issue. –Levi

Guardians of the Galaxy #9 can be summed up in three words - "Where", "is" and "she". Obfuscation can be a compelling tool to use when telling a story, but after four straight pages of Drax just mindlessly yelling, "Where is she?" and punching things - the readers could really use some idea of the stakes of the mission. This issue asks the readers to just blindly follow Drax and Gamora, as they spend almost twenty pages punching aliens. All that saving the "reveal" for the final pages accomplishes, is annoy the readers and make most of the action feel meaningless. But, as meaningless as the action may feel, it's at least gorgeous to look at. The overabundance of two page spreads allows Valerio Schiti to again show off as an artistic powerhouse. Don't be surprised when Marvel's big 2017 or 2018 event book is drawn by Schiti. –Levi

One of the biggest problems with the latest volume of Guardians of the Galaxy is that the title has relied too much on telling over showing. That's a particularly big problem when the "showing" (aka Valerio Schiti's art) is so phenomenally top-notch. With Guardians of the Galaxy #10, Brian Michael Bendis is able to make good use of his overly verbose characters as they kick all kinds of butt and their bravado actually helps to fuel the feeling of doom for the Badoon. Schiti gets a lot to do in this issue as all characters get a satisfying action moment, and the overall ensemble get some exhilarating action spreads. It's a pretty bombastic issue with plenty of fist-pumping moments. -Levi
