What Nathan Edmondson does with the Black Widow series finale is the exact opposite (but equally brilliant) to what he did with his Punisher finale last week. Where Punisher was all about going out with a bang, Black Widow shows how the gun was loaded. We've been teased with pieces of Natasha's backstory throughout this run, but this issue may be the most tantalizing chunk yet. Contrasting her current heroism with her past iniquity adds another layer of tragedy to the story. Phil Noto tells the tale with such a subtle touch that it never spills over into melodrama. The few bodies that drop in this issue are just a splash compared to Punisher's bloodbath last week, but there's such nuance with Noto's layouts and character reactions (or lack thereof, in Black Widow's case) that the deaths are just as powerful. -Levi
