DC Future State Promises a Brand-New DC Universe in 2021

CitazioneDC has announced that the fallout from Dark Nights: Death Metal will lead to DC Future State, a two-month, line-wide event beginning in January 2021. February will feature a combination of monthly and twice-monthly oversize anthologies, as well as a monthly schedule of miniseries and one-shots starring current and future DC heroes.

All-new characters will take on the iconic mantles of fan-favorite heroes in DC Future State, with new series launching with creative talent from the worlds of TV, movies and animation. March 2021 will see DC's normal publishing lineup return, continuing existing storylines from 2020 and introducing new arcs for the year.

"The DC Universe has always been fertile ground for new and refreshing takes on our characters, and DC Future State definitely contributes to this legacy," DC Executive Editor Marie Javins said in a statement. "When the event begins in January, some savvy readers will not only pick up on some of the breadcrumbs that have already been tossed out in our current titles, but they will also find new hints and clues of what's to come in 2021."

The creative lineup for DC Future State includes Mariko Tamaki, Brian Michael Bendis, Gene Luen Yang, Joëlle Jones, Joshua Williamson, Nicola Scott, Cully Hamner and John Timms, along with new voices such as award-winning screenwriter John Ridley (12 Years A Slave), Brandon Vietti (Young Justice), Meghan Fitzmartin (Supernatural, DC Super Hero Girls), Brandon Easton (Thundercats, Transformers: War for Cybertron), Alitha Martinez (REPRESENT! It's A Bird!), L.L. McKinney (Nubia: Real One), Paula Sevenbergen (Stargirl) and Siya Oum (Lola XOXO), among others.

The DC Future State event will be split into Batman, Superman and Justice League Family of titles consisting of oversized comics, monthly miniseries and one-shots.

The event features a combination of familiar DC creative talent like Mariko Tamaki, Brian Michael Bendis, Gene Luen Yang, Joëlle Jones, Joshua Williamson, Nicola Scott, Cully Hamner, and John Timms along with creators from the worlds of TV, movies, and animation and other DC publishing lines including John Ridley, Brandon Vietti, Meghan Fitzmartin, Brandon Easton, Alitha Martinez, L.L. McKinney, Paula Sevenbergen, and Siya Oum, among others.

DC has released descriptions of the three main Future State families along with the January-February title line-up and creative teams for each family.

Già, pare proprio una roba tipo Future's End.
Per quanto riguarda il team creativo, è gente un po' not-so-random, presi da qui e là, tipo serie tv Stargirl, cartoni come Young Justice ecc...

All masked vigilantes have been outlawed and Batman has been killed. But led by an all-new Batman, a new assembly of Gotham's guardians rise to give hope to all of those who lost it!"

Future State: The Next Batman and Future State: Dark Detective are both four-issue, bimonthly oversized anthologies.

What is this mysterious crime fighter's connection to former Batman weaponeer Lucius Fox? The fight for justice has never been this dangerous!

Then, in a new tale of the Outsiders, everything in Gotham City may be under the thumb of the Magistrate—but even members of that totalitarian force know that the outskirts of town are protected by the sword of Katana!

Written by rising star writer Stephanie Phillips and drawn by fan-favorite artist Simone Di Meo, the next era of Harley Quinn begins here!

Future State: Dark Detective #1 (Jan 12)
"Dark Detective" by Mariko Tamaki and Dan Mora
"Grifters" by Matthew Rosenberg and Carmine di Giandomenico
The world thought Bruce Wayne was dead. They were dead wrong! When the sinister para-military organization known as the Magistrate seizes control of Gotham City, the original Batman went big to put them down...but even the Dark Knight couldn't predict how far this evil force would go to stop him. Now, Bruce Wayne is on the run! From Eisner Award-winning writer Mariko Tamaki and rising star artist Dan Mora, it's the story of a Batman pushed to the brink—with nothing left to lose.

Also in this issue, Grifter is back! Cole Cash is having a bad day, and that's not going to improve when the detectives of the GCPD show up! Will a chance meeting with Luke Fox change his luck? Or is his day about to get a lot worse?

Join the ultimate heist at 20,000 feet as Robin and Spoiler hijack the sky convoy that could mean the end of freedom in Gotham forever—if the emotional baggage between Tim and Stephanie doesn't do them in first! It's the fist-flying, sky-diving, robot smashing, fascist-punching adventure that you cannot miss—from rising star writer Meghan Fitzmartin (Supernatural) and top artist Eddy Barrows (Detective Comics)!

Future State: The Next Batman #2 (Jan. 19)
"The Next Batman" by John Ridley, Nick Derington and Laura Braga
"Batgirls" by Vita Ayala and Aneke
"Gotham City Sirens" by Paula Sevenbergen and Emanuela Lupacchino

Batman is on the trail of a murderous couple but quickly finds that all is not as it seems...and finds himself in the firing line of the Magistrate and their Peacekeepers! The gritty, street-level adventures of the new Dark Knight continue!
Also in this issue, Batgirls Cassandra Cain and Stephanie Brown find themselves thrown into a prison where the Magistrate throws heroes and villains alike! What no one knows, though, is that Cassandra was sent there with a mission... And in a story of the Gotham City Sirens, some girls just want to have fun—so what do you do when you find Gotham City in turmoil and overrun by Cybers? You go shopping, of course! Join Catwoman, Poison Ivy, and a new Siren on a gal's night out. They're on the town, looking for trouble...and finding it!

Future State: Catwoman (Jan 19)
by Ram V and Otto Schmidt
Masked vigilantes have been deemed illegal, and the Magistrate has commandeered a bullet train to take those they've captured to a reformation facility—and filled the rest of the train with innocent children! Catwoman is hellbent on ensuring it never reaches its destination. Armed with a new magnetic suit, assisted by her trusty band of Strays, and featuring her new protégé, Cheshire Cat, she must pull off the impossible: a train heist where she steals...the train itself! But Selina isn't the only person aboard who has plans for this train and its most unexpected passenger!

Future State: Nightwing #1 (Jan 19)

When Nightwing gets a visit from a mask claiming to be the new Batman...does he fight like one? Pick up this dark peek into the future by writer Andrew Constant and artist Nicola Scott to find out!

Future State: Batman/Superman #1 (Jan 26)
By Gene Luen Yang and Ben Oliver
Back in the early days of the Magistrate's occupation of Gotham City, Bruce Wayne found himself pushed to the edge like never before. So calling the Man of Steel in for backup makes a sense, right? Wrong. Gotham's sinister overlords have already sprung the ultimate trap on the Last Son of Krypton...and with Kryptonian power at your command, no one can stand in your way! Plus...where on Earth did Professor Pyg get a Kryptonite scalpel? Brace yourselves, because things are going to get gross in the caverns below Gotham...

Future State: Dark Detective #2 (Jan 26)
"Dark Detective" by Mariko Tamaki and Dan Mora
"Red Hood" by Joshua Williamson and Giannis Milonogiannis

Bruce Wayne is supposed to be dead...but this Dark Detective is on the run and shining a light on the mystery of his own "murder": How did the killers know Bruce Wayne was Batman? As the forces of the Magistrate zero in on Bruce's location, it's a race against time to unlock the secrets of their surveillance tech and take the fight to the very top! But is the knowledge that Bruce's own legacy helped to enable the greatest authoritarian force the city of Gotham has ever seen too much to bear?

Also in this issue, Jason Todd is a haunted man. He's working a job he hates on the violent streets of Gotham City as a mask hunter for the Magistrate! He takes contracts to catch villains—or heroes—and brings them in alive—mostly. But when the Red Hood gang reemerges, Jason must solve a mystery that could doom the city.

DC Future State reveals the Next Batman, the fate of Bruce Wayne, and a whole new line of titles

Spiacente, ma non sei autorizzato a visualizzare il contenuto degli spoiler.

CitazioneDC's Batman line of comic books will be getting a dramatic change in January 2021 - all the ongoing titles will be paused, and in their place new series that will introduce a new status quo set several years in the future as part of the now-revealed 'Future State' event.

"['Future State'] is a combination of two things. It's an opportunity to tell some really exciting stories in the imminent future of Gotham City, and it's an opportunity to work with a lot of really great, diverse creators. It's a future look at things to come," said Batman group editor Ben Abernathy.

"For new readers, it's an exciting, killer story. But it's also a possible outcome for the titles in the modern-day line."In this view at a possible DC future, Gotham City has been taken over by an insidious law enforcement agency known as the Magistrate.

Spiacente, ma non sei autorizzato a visualizzare il contenuto degli spoiler.

"They patrol the streets using advance surveillance weaponry in the form of 'Cybers': robot law enforcement peacekeepers, who are the highest level of law in the food chain," Abernathy explains. "I've joked internally that they're the 'Sith Lords' of Gotham, and they basically patrol the streets and keep it 'safe' from all sorts of 'masks' - villain or hero. It is now illegal to be a masked vigilante in the city, and the consequences are dire."

The leader of the Magistrate is a man named Peacekeeper One.

"Who he is, what he is... get a sense of that as the story progresses, but there's one element to explore for years to come."
Under its control, all masked vigilantes ('masks' as they call them) have been outlawed, and Batman himself is presumed dead. In his place, a new group of heroes - led by an all-new Batman - have risen up to fight for justice.

"My phenomenal editorial group and I mapped out a vision for a possible future for the Batline; where things could lie or go towards," the editor tells Newsarama. "With those seeds of ideas, we began reaching out to talent we wanted for 'Future State.' The creative teams really responded in the 'best case' scenario imaginable, and together we ran with them, developed them, evolved them, and morphed them into great books. These are beautifully illustrated titles I think people will really enjoy."

While these will work as standalone stories you can begin in January and finish in February, Abernathy tells Newsarama some of these characters and storyline threads will continue when the modern-day Bat-books resume in March.

"With the Bat group title, it's definitely a look towards the future," Abernathy says. "How much of that future is true is uncertain, because decisions in the present can always change the future. On one hand, yes they're great standalone stories but the seeds... wait, 'Future State' doesn't plant seeds; it's already crop-grown. The seeds are already planted; these stories will come to fruition in the main line."

Abernathy points to Batman: Joker War Zone #1 and Detective Comics #1027 as 'seeds' already available, as well as the upcoming Batman #101 and Detective Comics #1030 as places people to look for "easter eggs" about what's to come with Future State.

Superman Family

"Due to his involvement in an international crisis happening in the near future, Clark Kent has been rejected by Earth, causing him to focus his lifesaving efforts outside his adopted home," reads DC's description. "He travels to Warworld to rise through the ranks of gladiatorial combat in order to defeat Mongul with the help of some unlikely heroes.

"Back in Metropolis, Clark's son Jon has taken on the mantle of Superman. After seeing the horrors that befell Gotham, he bottles Metropolis in order to keep it safe, putting him at odds with Supergirl."

A Shilo Norman/Mister Miracle story connects the two oversized Future State: Superman titles, as he "finds himself caught between the city he grew up in and the battle-torn planet that could be his downfall."

"Meanwhile in the Amazon rainforest, Yara Flor is chosen to be the new Wonder Woman," concludes DC's description. "Years later, the new Superman and Wonder Woman join forces to save their cities in a new superhero team-up the likes of which the world has never seen."

This monumental Future State title features four big stories! First, Clark Kent is gone, leaving a Superman-shaped hole behind. People gather in Smallville to celebrate their hero, little realizing that he is across the galaxy helping others. Superman has gone to Warworld, where he fights as a gladiator in the deadly pits of Mongul. But this is Superman we're talking about—and his idea of a victory does not line up with the expectations of Mongul's hordes!
Meanwhile, on the other side of Warworld, other agents are at work, struggling for a better life. Shilo Norman, the man known as Mister Miracle, has ridden a Boom Tube across the cosmos from Metropolis to finds himself at odds with an entire planet!
At the same time, Midnighter, the greatest fighter from Earth, is punching his way through a whole mess of trouble. He's on the hunt for a new energy source deadlier than Kryptonite. His goal: to shut it down before it gets unleashed on an unsuspecting universe.
On top of that, the Black Racer, a girl raised in the slums of Warworld to be one of its top competitors, turns betrayal into a crusade to fight for the freedom of others like her.

Justice League Family

"A thread of great change runs through the Justice League heroes: a new League is built upon secret identities (even from each other), but an old and evolved enemy will use these secrets to try and overthrow the world," reads DC's description. "For the supernatural heroes of Justice League Dark, the very fabric of reality has shifted, and heroes are being hunted.

"For Flash, Shazam, and the Teen Titans, it all begins when the four Riders of the Apocalypse unleash hell in a battle at Titans Academy, Barry Allen is cut off from the Speed Force, a Famine-controlled Wally West may be beyond saving, and Billy Batson makes a deal with the devil that will change Shazam forever."

"Off-world, John Stewart and the remaining Green Lanterns are stranded in the shadow of a dead power battery; Jackson Hyde and Andy Curry are separated across the galaxy; and Amanda Waller executes her ultimate plan with a new but terrifyingly familiar Suicide Squad on Earth-3," continues DC's description.

When Jackson Hyde accepted the mantle of Aquaman, he didn't expect to also have to mentor Andy Curry, Arthur and Mera's teen daughter. Nor did he expect that he and Andy would get sucked into the Confluence—an interdimensional nexus that connects distant planets and galaxies through the One Great Ocean. And he certainly didn't expect to lose Andy in the process of trying to find their way back home. Now Jackson's not sure how long he's been stuck in a prison on Neptune (five years?) or how many times he's tried to escape (200 at least!). But today Jackson saw something in the water that gave him hope for the first time in a long time—and his captors have no idea what he's got in store for them.

:zuzu:
