EXCLUSIVE: CHRIS BRUNNER COVERS "WINTER SOLDIER" #17

Since the announcement that he would take over "Winter Soldier" from co-creator Ed Brubaker, writer Jason Latour has been talking about his plans for carrying the spy action forward in the Marvel Comics series. And that tone will continue on the visual side as well as the story side.

Aside from teaming with artist Nic Klein on the monthly comic, Latour is welcoming his "Loose Ends" collaborator Chris Brunner to the series for a new cover to March's issue #17. Comic Book Resources got an exclusive first look at the image which presents a classic espionage take on Bucky Barnes.



As the writer told CBR Columnist Timothy Callahan earlier this month, "The big question I want to ask is: what will it take for Bucky to move forward? Is that even possible? As we've seen, there were a lot of ugly things waiting in the shadows that he should have addressed and now those things have destroyed a significant part of his life. In the aftermath he's going to find himself left with an overwhelming urge to do whatever it takes to prevent his sins from ever hurting someone else again. To get out ahead of this thing, and look his past in the eye."

WINTER SOLDIER Sees Red on #18 Variant Cover



Ed Brubaker's run on Winter Soldier ended this week with issue #14, paving the way for new series writer Jason Latour to take over next month. But here, we're leapfrogging all the way to May and issue #18, to bring you the exclusive debut of a new variant cover by Dave Johnson.
As you can see, it depicts Bucky standing proudly in front of Soviet imagery. Could this be an indication of a storyline development? Maybe a flashback to Bucky's brainwashed Soviet assassin days? Or is a cover just a cover in this instance — after all, the hammer and sickle has been a part of the Winter Soldier series logo since issue #1.

Well, readers will find out more either a) in May, or b) in another few weeks, when Marvel's May 2013 solicitations are released. Until then, enjoy the art.

Un'opinione per chi ha letto tutti e 20 i volumi. Visto che io ho iniziato questa serie solo perchè scritta da Brubaker, volevo chiedervi  se è proprio necessario recuperare anche gli ultimi sei volumi, oppure se posso fermarmi al quattordicesimo (quindi se ha comunque un finale "esaustivo")

Ho appena finito i numeri Bru e no, non è necessario proseguire in quanto il finale chiude la vicenda.
Vicenda che mi ha regalato non poche sorprese e che si chiude in modo davvero agrodolce.
