Future Foundation #2 (Published by Marvel Comics; Review by Kat Calamia; 'Rama Rating: 6 out of 10):

Future Foundation's second installment leans heavily on exposition and action, but finds solace between the budding relationship of Julie Power and Rikki Barnes. The series still struggles with balancing its large cast as they all try finding their voices in the narrative. If the issue focused less on Reed's expository dialogue there could have been more room for team building, allowing audience members to feel connected to these characters and their adventure. On artwork, Will Robson and Paco Diaz give a nice cartoony flavor to the series and does a good job at fitting the title's large cast without it feeling too crowded. Future Foundation's first arc has been a bloated one, but still has many sparks that showcase that this can be a potentially great series.

FUTURE FOUNDATION To End with December's #5



Future Foundation writer Jeremy Whitley has confirmed that the series will be ending with December's #5.

"I had no idea this was going to break today, because I wasn't at the Marvel summit this past week and I had no idea this was being discussed, but yes, the Future Foundation is currently slated to finish at issue 5," Whitley tweeted.

"Now, that doesn't mean we don't have a boatload of wild stuff planned between now and issue 5, we do," Whitley said. "So if you liked issues 1-2, I encourage you to keep picking it up. Just because it's ending doesn't mean it doesn't count. Let's go out with a bang."

Future Foundation #3 (Published by Marvel Comics; Review by Justin Partridge; 'Rama Rating: 8 out of 10):

The anachronism that is Rikki Barnes takes center stage during a pitched escape attempt in Future Foundation #3. Framing her impossible life as a superhero fairy tale writer Jeremy Whitley gives readers a concise, emotional rundown of how and why Rikki found herself on the prison planet, only to upshift into good old-fashioned superheroics in the latter half of the issue. It is here where artist Will Robson and Paco Diaz shine. Rendering a tense, tightly packed battle between the FF and the planet's prison guard nanobots, the pair kick the action of the title into overdrive, culminating in a tremendous double page splash of the whole Foundation (plus their super criminal allies) smashing and trashing all manner of robots. Filled with fantastic characterization and classic, momentive artwork Future Foundation #3 gets another high mark.

Future Foundation #4 (Published by Marvel Comics; Review by Kat Calamia; 'Rama Rating: 5 out of 10):

The fight between the team and Ultimate Reed Richards continues to be a game of cat and mouse that has overstayed its welcome. In Future Foundation #4, writer Jeremy Whitley leans heavy on the action, while the series struggles juggling its large cast. The cramped narrative makes any significant character beats feel muddled. That said, artist Alti Firmansyah and colorist Triona Farrell are able to better balance the many characters with their sleek and cartoony style. Overall, Future Foundation's penultimate issue leaves fans on an interesting cliffhanger, but there aren't enough emotional moments to allow this story to be truly memorable.

Future Foundation #5 (Published by Marvel Comics; Review by Kat Calamia; 'Rama Rating: 7 out of 10):

It's sad to see a series that was just starting to find its footing forced to wrap. Future Foundation #5 has a much better handling of its characters, and a promising future for its leads Alex and Julie Power. As a huge Julie fan, I was happy to see the chemistry between her and Rikki blossom as writer Jeremy Whitley gives us just enough for a satisfying relationship between the two, but it's a shame that most of Julie's romances are forced to be explored off-panel. The creative team tries to wrap up as much as they can, but Whitley's use of exposition does distract from an otherwise strong character-driven issue. Meanwhile, Whitley's Unstoppable Wasp collaborator Alti Firmansyah aces the romantic beats, while still creating a fun, action-packed finale. Following a sudden cancellation, Whitley and Firmansyah wrap up the series as cleanly as they can by leaving many interesting threads for future titles to pick upon, while still delivering closure for fans of this title and their characters.
