Spider-Gwen enters Murder World – just not her Murder World, which truly flips Arcade's devious power set on its ear. Gwen is forced to go up against Peter Parker's biggest fears, and one of the most interesting aspects of this Annual is the similarities and differences Gwen has with Peter's demons — for example, going against the Lizard and instead grappling with the guilt of losing her universe's Peter Parker, or battling Peter's superheroic colleagues (and her universe's greatest enemies) Punisher and Daredevil. But the real gut-punch was having Gwen Stacy learn that Earth 616's Gwen is only remembered as a victim. Artist Pere Perez gives a sleek look to the book. He aces this action-packed issue, and I was absolutely floored by Rachel Rosenberg's coloring. She does a splendid job at meshing both Ian Herring and Rico Renzi's style to deliver some wonderfully vibrant visuals. Ghost-Spider Annual #1 is a really great interlude to Gwen's new life as she tries to find balance between living in two different universes.

Ghost-Spider #2 (Published by Marvel Comics; Review by Kat Calamia; 'Rama Rating: 8 out of 10):

Every superhero has to play a balancing act, and for Gwen this is physically shown through her trips from Earth-65 to Earth-616. Earth-65 is a representation of Gwen's superhero life. Everyone knows her secret identity - she's a superhero 24-7, even when she's not wearing her mask. Earth-616 represents a hero's secret identity persona as Gwen tries to keep her superheroics a secret and adjust to college life. Writer Seanan McGuire perfectly showcases this tension between Gwen's worlds as we see the villains from both lives begin to gain the advantage. On art, Takeshi Miyazawa also aces the juxtaposition between super heroics and Gwen's college life with a nice mix of action and character beats. Ghost-Spider #2 does a good job at creating the building blocks that will certainly lead towards some entertaining drama with Jonah's son on her earth and Jackal on Earth-616.

Gwen's life is perfect! She's enjoying her classes, making friends, and even arriving to band practice on time. Wait - this doesn't sound right. Gwen is a Spider-person - what happened to the old Spider luck? Well, Gwen learns the hard way that balancing a life between two worlds isn't going to be easy, as she has a dire reunion with her "arch-nemesis" the Bodega Bandit. It raises the stakes for an issue rooted in routine. On artwork, Takeshi Miyazawa does a great job at balancing the series slice of life storytelling with its high energy action. Ghost Spider #3 is the calm before the storm, as Seanan McGuire continues to build Gwen's antagonists in the background to become even bigger threats.

Ghost Spider switches gears as writer Seanan McGuire puts a spotlight on Earth-616's Jackal, but sadly the longtime Spider-Man villain just isn't as infectious as the title's main star. The issue shines the most when Gwen takes center stage, even if her role is limited to being kidnapped. That said, The Mary Janes coming to the rescue and having the power dynamic in Gwen's control made this a bit less cliché for this familiar Jackal/Gwen dynamic. On artwork, Takeshi Miyazawa continues to do a great job as his style truly revels with coming of age stories, especially with Ian Herring's bright color palette. Ghost Spider #5 moves the story from point A to point B with some rather forgettable character beats, but succeeds when playing with recognizable Spider tropes.

There are so many things that make Spider-Gwen/Ghost-Spider a great franchise: Gwen's relationship with her father, her friendship with the Mary Janes as they navigate rock stardom, and the fresh new take Earth-65 gives to the Marvel mythos. Thankfully, Ghost-Spider #6 brings all this together and more. While Gwen multiverse-hopping to enjoy concerts with her bandmates brings on the laughs, her team-up with her father delivers the heart, as Johnny and Sue Storm's socialite Earth-65 counterparts introduces an intriguing mystery. On pencils, Ig Guara takes on art duties in an incredible debut to the series. Guara has great, sleek pencils that has a more adult vibe compared to mainstay artist Takeshi Miyazawa. Ghost-Spider #6 is the perfect balance of slice-of-life and action, delivering the best issue of an already incredible series.
