Now that's the Warren Ellis I remember. Great action and horrible bastards. It's not often you see a 15-panel page, but Jon Davis-Hunt not only makes it work, he uses it to amp up the tension of a very memorable sequence. Let's put it this way: there's only one real action scene in this book, and that's all that it needs. The rest of it is largely an exposition dump between Angela Spica and Jacob Marlowe, as he explains what's happening and part of who he really is. The truly impressive part is how readable the issue is even though very little actually happens. And the glimpse of what Void really is was unsettling. This isn't the Wildstorm universe you may remember. So far, it's become a place worth exploring. It still has a long way to go before it reaches the heights of Ellis' previous Wildstorm run, but this was a great issue and an encouraging step in the right direction. -Blair

"This world can be fun but it isn't kind." Believe it or not, this is a stealth Green Arrow issue, and Oliver Queen takes up a surprising number of pages in what probably should be Michael Cray's solo spotlight. This is a spinoff of Warren Ellis' The Wild Storm, but it doesn't quite read as well if you're not familiar with the character or his world before coming into this issue. Bryan Hill's best work here comes within the quieter scenes between Michael and his family, as well as his already strained relationship with his new boss. Hill's take on Oliver Queen is also pretty interesting, although he is definitely not the Green Arrow of the DCU. N. Steven Harris' pages demonstrate his very deep understanding of the sequential arts, and his layouts are impressive. I'm not quite as blown away by the overall story, and it does feel a little incomplete outside of The Wild Storm series. But I'm willing to see where this detour goes. -Blair
