We're all searching for enlightenment.
But what is light?
Different for everyone. But everyone looking.

See what we want to see.
No matter how small...or big we are.

Ma... per Batman hanno fatto più "villain" o sono variant?

Zero Week EXCLUSIVE: My Gotham, by Scott Snyder

As Zero Week continues here at the New York Post's Parallel Worlds, we turn things over to today's biggest Batwriter, Scott Snyder. Scott was gracious enough to be our very first guest blogger. Next Wednesday's Batman 21 will be the start of one comics' biggest storylines of the year, if not the biggest: "Zero Year," Batman's new origin. - DG
And check out yesterday's blog post, where we showed off the first preview pages Batman 21. Take it away, Scott!

I was 11 years old when I realized that Gotham City was a real place – and that I lived there.
The book that taught me this was "Batman: Year One,: by Frank Miller. It told Batman's origin – a story I already knew well, even at that age – the story of a young boy whose parents were killed one fateful night in an alley, a boy who then swore from that night forward to fight crime, and prevent a similar tragedy from happening again.
But while I knew the story, I'd never felt it the way I did when I read that book; I'd never lived it. But suddenly, there on these pages was a Gotham City that I recognized all too well. The dirty street corners, the crime, the gangs and graffiti, the rot... Growing up in Manhattan in the 80's, these were things I saw around me. They were aspects of city life I knew, aspects that scared me, and sometimes made me afraid to be living in New York.
And then suddenly, gliding through the night, there was Batman. Not Batman as he'd looked in all the comics I'd read up until then, not impossibly muscled, not smiling, no silly gadgets... But a Batman who looked human and yet still terrifying and heroic.
Year One -- controversial as it was -- re-imagined Batman's story in a way that made him incomparably real and inspiring for me. Because what this Batman was saying, by virtue of his mad and wonderful presence in this very real city was: Stand up to your fears, here, in this place, and be a hero.
Now, 25 years later, the city has changed dramatically. Sure, the old vices are there, or there in different ways, and but I'd argue that for most of us who live or work in the city, our big fears about New York have changed. For better or worse, New York of the 2010's isn't the city of the 1980's. The same center that was rotting away when I was a kid is now bright and blinding. The subways are cleaner. Central Park is safer. There are gangs and drugs and crime, but it seems to me – and maybe I'm wrong but still – that the big fears, the nightmares we suffer together generally have more to do with the threat of big, senseless violence. The random attack that could erupt on a subway or hit a building at any moment. Sirens and screams on a sunny day.
And so for those of us who work on the series, Batman, it seemed like maybe now was a good time to try to recast that origin story once again. To retell the tale of that boy, that alley and that fateful night, but to do it in a way that hopefully makes Gotham – and Batman – real and immediate to readers today.
That's what we're trying to do with "Batman: Zero Year. "Not because Year One is lacking in any way – the book is a masterpiece through and through – but because we felt it was time to tell the old story in a brand new way, a way you've never seen before, a way that (hopefully) speaks to our fears and hopes as New Yorkers.
Because the truth is that you live in Gotham too. We all do. And what Batman should always be reminding us, gliding overhead at night, is that this is our city, and we should not be afraid; we should be brave, always brave, and fight for it.

Batman 21 goes on sale June 12. Tomorrow, Zero Week continues with a look at Greg Capullo's artistic approach to Batman's new origin.

Da quello che si legge infatti saranno nuove origini, aggiornate a questo batman piu' moderno.
Il tutto con l'ispirazione dell'originale anno uno.

"I have taken way their confusion and replaced it with obediance. I have taken away their fear of themselves and given them a fear of Darkseid. I have liberated them from the chaos of indecision. I have given them one straight path! One purpose! One goal: TO DIE FOR DARKSEID!"
