Billed as a James-Bond-meets-Indiana-Jones fantasy adventure, there are moments to Skybourne #1 that deliver on the presented premise. As far as production goes, few books look better, Frank Cho delivering an action packed, impeccably choreographed first chapter. The writer/artist does a nice job of getting his story rolling quickly and efficiently, the nonstop pace making for great entertainment. Unfortunately, the sheen dulls some as soon as the characters open their mouths. For every fantastic visual moment there's an equally groan-inducing bit of dialogue, with beats that are dated, repetitive, and downright offensive. These moments aren't a total deal breaker – for the most part Cho lets his gorgeous art tell the story – but they are noticeable, particularly so given how strong the rest of the issue is. Still, despite the early hiccups there's enough to enjoy here from a visual and narrative perspective to merit further consideration. -Jeff
