Zhal is one of the richest, most intriguing worlds we've ever seen Rick Remender and Jerome Opena create, and it's clear after just two issues that we've barely scratched the surface. It also seems like Adam Osidis will not be our only guide through this world. The White Lady, Drawbridge, and the insanely awesome Patchwork are very welcome additions to the cast, and their battle with the Mud King is quite brutal (and hopefully just beginning). Seriously, that thing with Patchwork's arm was AWESOME. Opena has given us amazing visuals over the years, and this series only adds to his incredible portfolio. His design for the Mud King is simple yet terrifying, and with Remender's script Garlis Sulm menaces across the page. Zhal is a place where deals with the devil are made on a daily basis, this journey through Remender and Opena's latest masterpiece is sure to be perilous. - Joe

Seven to Eternity #2 (Published by Image Comics; Review by Matthew Sibley; 'Rama Rating: 9 out of 10):

Rick Remender has a habit of writing protagonists with familial problems, mainly daddy issues. But who can complain when the books are this gorgeous? It's a treat just to have Jerome Opeña on a book again having not seen any of his work since Rage of Ultron, another collaboration with Remender featuring a twisted family. The issue blends an extended flashback that builds upon Adam's experiences with the world and his father from when he was a lad with the present day story where he begs Mud King to spare his family. Even before action ensues, Opeña uses his framing to highlight power in the scene like when the King has Adam in the palm of his hand. Rus Wooton's lettering helps the world-building as the various balloons utilised represent different aspects while Hollingsworth uses a palette which blends similar colours in close proximity. If you're familiar with Remender's work, you'll notice some familiar elements, but it's still compelling in this new world.

The Earth is round, the sky is blue, and Remender & Opena create amazing comic books together. Some things are just always true, and if Seven to Eternity is still not on your pull list, you're doing comic books wrong. Issue #3 closes out the first arc of the series while setting the stage for the long, epic journey to come. Remender has crafted one of his most unique and fascinating cast of characters. Patchwork alone is worth the price of admission, and the Mud King may be his most terrifyingly hilarious villain ever. Big things are clearly ahead for Adam Osiris and his band of...whatever they are, and how lucky are we to have Jerome Opena illustrating this man's road to redemption? There may not be any breathtaking double-page spreads like there have been in previous issues, but that's forgivable when every panel looks like a work of art. - Joe

This is a tale of two halves. Rick Remender spends the early pages dealing with the aftermath of the book's first arc, and in typical Remender fashion they're heavy in both dialogue and tone. Much of that consternation continues to come from lead Adam, Remender again delving deep into the character's stubborn personality. While there are some nice developments that come from this detailed look, namely in the slow but noticeable thaw between Adam and the rest of his companions, there are also times where the dense narration simply bogs the story down. Even the issue's signature action sequence, tensely and surreal-y illustrated by Jerome Opena, can't quite get out from those ever oppressive bubbles. Thankfully, the choice presented at issue's end lends a more immediate rhythm to the book. There Remender relies on straightforward dialogue over involved introspection, the chemistry between Adam and the Mud King as compelling as anything we've seen yet. -Jeff

In any other book, "traipse through murder bog" would be hook enough. But in typical Rick Remender fashion, the writer uses the (comparatively) straightforward danger scenario as a way of both splitting the main narrative and exploring the ever shifting priorities of those within it. Whereas Remender's dialogue heavy script impeded the action last issue, here it fits more seamlessly within the ongoing events. The struggles here land on both an internal and external level, and while some characters still feel more fully formed than others, lead Adam continues to be a uniquely torn study in selfishness versus sacrifice. Its compelling stuff, made more so by the dynamite tandem of Jerome Opena and Matt Hollingsworth. Lush with vivid greens and frightening foliage, this issue is as unique and complex as anything we've seen thus far, and just as pretty. -Jeff

95 percent of the time, I can tolerate rotating artists on a comic. It's rarely ideal, but it's simply impossible for most artists to maintain a monthly schedule given the standard readers expect from their books nowadays. But there are cases where a book's success is inextricably linked to its artist. Seven to Eternity is one of those. This simply doesn't feel like the same book without Jerome Opena's ultra-detailed lines and haunting character designs setting the tone for this fantasy universe. James Harren is certainly a talented artist in his own right, but his looser, more frenetic style simply doesn't mesh well with Opena's precise approach. So even though this two-issue storyline succeeds in further fleshing out key characters and conflicts and the shifting alliances at work, there's a growing sense of dissatisfaction to the execution. Maybe that's Seven to Eternity's true weakness compared to Rick Remender's other Image projects. The story as it is right now isn't quite strong enough to stand on its own, independent of Opena's incredible artwork. -Jesse

I disegni dovrebbero essere splendidi, la trama forse un po' incasinata.

I primi 4 numeri sono sopratutto di introduzione per il mondo e i personaggi. La trama prende veramente il via dal secondo arco narrativo.
