At 48 pages of brotherly brawling, this one-shot was already a pretty easy sell. Thankfully, Fred Van Lente also turns in a pretty entertaining story, placing Valiant's most eternal trio into Arthurian mythos. While not adding much to the characters present incarnations, Van Lente's script is nonetheless quite strong in utilizing each brother to their most full and often uproarious effect. His dialogue is especially sharp—though definitely of another age, each character is unmistakable in voice, something the writer plays to great effect with his ever rotating cast of narrators. Van Lente is also aided by the book's strong art team, lead by mainstay Cary Nord. This is as much a fantasy book as it is a comedy, and the artists involved do an excellent job of striking a balance that befits both. That assured tone allows Van Lente's many referential nods and knowing jokes to hit their mark, making for a great all around usage of all the characters involved. The Princess Bride by way of a table-top game master, this standalone is a hoot. -Jeff
