Britannia: We Who Are About to Die is more than just a hard-boiled detective mystery set in the Roman Empire. It's also an examination of the debauchery of late-stage civilization and the contradiction of a man of reason and deduction being tormented by visions from the gods. All of this, plus this Britannia sequel introduces a new player in the form of female slave-turned-gladiator. The result is a dense story full of intrigue, murder and Roman politics. It makes for an intriguing blend, even if Peter Milligan's script sometimes feels overburdened by dialogue and exposition. Juan Jose Ryp's artwork is great about capturing the look and feel of Rome consumed by hedonistic excess. There's a slightly maniacal, unnerving quality to many of Ryp's figures. Frank D'Armata's colors heighten that uneasy quality, though they also tend to overpower the line-work. Ryp's style normally stand out because of its bold confidence, and this series downplays that quality to some extent. Even so, the lavish depiction of Ancient Rome in all its profane glory is something to behold. -Jesse

Rome's only Dectectioner returns in the intriguing and gory Britannia: We Who Are About To Die #1. While the first Britannia installment was a tight creature feature, Peter Milligan expands his scope exponentially, delivering another supernaturally themed murder mystery that stands to threaten the very foundations of Rome itself. The young sons of Rome are turning up dead in the shrines of the gods and its up to Antonious Axia to root out the cause. Juan Rose Ryp is also back for this second entry, along with colorist Frankie D'Armata, and their rustic, heavily inked pages are perfect for the ruddy and sometimes bloody streets of Rome in the Time of Nero, a decidedly different tone than the swampy greens and foggy marshes of the first installment. Even if you missed the debut series, Britannia: We Who Are About To Die #1 is a wonderfully dark and twisted return to the crime infested pre-fall Rome.

Non ce l'ho fatta ad aspettare e ho preso il tp usa. Mamma mia che storia, intensa, matura, costruita e disegnata in modo superbo. Ogni pagina ti fa venire voglia di scoprire cosa avverrà più avanti. Sono contento di averlo preso e penso di seguire anche il seguito

Bell'inizio per questa seconda stagione, che penso si impronterà più sul lato detective. Sempre molto coinvolgente

Qui si vede tutta la crudeltà di Nero. Procede bene, c'è una minaccia da parte degli dei, ma ancora rimane tutto nell'ombra

Sono contento per lui, da diverso tempo i suoi lavori a  detta di molti stavano calando di qualità.

Penultimo capitolo di questa seconda stagione. Molto cruento come al solito, ma secondo me nel prossimo ne vedremo delle belle visto che adesso Antonius sta sfidando un dio

Conclusione del secondo volume. Il livello rimane alto, ma devo dire di aver preferito il precedente volume. Penso che sicuramente ci sarà un terzo capitolo
